Complexity

 

There are other sorts of secret.

The first is where the treasure is hidden behind other things,

and we want to explore to find it. The second is when the treasure is found,

 in abundance, and we are confronted with a decision of what to look at first.

It’s the difference between trying to find that bunch of grapes,

and then, which one to eat first.

This sort of Secret constitutes an important genre in art…

The fascination here is created because there is just so much to look at, and explore. There is a story to be told,

many stories, in fact. Each evokes an entire other world.

Perhaps this should have a section all to itself,

since it is really another phenomenon. This is where the secret is revealed,

but it takes a while to absorb, to reinterpret. It is the moment when the letters ‘P&O’ hit the screen;

when the pirate says ‘…first day wiv me ‘ook’; when we grasp that you CAN have draft beer in a can;

when those trousers suddenly vanish from the stripper.

 

 It is the moment when you have crossed the Portal and see the wide landscape beyond.

And it bears more than a passing resemblance

to the sharp end of the Surge.
